FIREWORKS SAFETY

Big Bang Fireworks Owner, Bob Carpenter
We want YOU to be SAFE
this 4th of July!

We hope that you will enjoy the fun and excitement of your Big Bang Fireworks, and that you will do so in a safe and careful manner. Fireworks are an American tradition. They can provide hours of wholesome, family entertainment, but must be used by adults carefully and safely. To insure the safety of both the audience and those lighting the fireworks, we recommend that you follow the following fireworks safety measures during your fireworks display.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission has reported fewer injuries from fireworks despite increased sales over the last several years. Please do your part to help continue this trend and have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Purchase Fireworks from a Reliable, Licensed Dealer

Big Bang Fireworks has been safely selling legal fireworks in Virginia for over 20 years. We scour the country to find the best new and spectacular fireworks each year that conform to the "Safe and Sane" designation permitted by the State of Virginia.

Follow the Laws and Use Common Sense

Follow your local and state laws regarding the possession and use of fireworks. Never use illegal fireworks or explosives. Never experiment with homemade fireworks or attempt to alter fireworks.

Use Care when Handling Fireworks

Never carry fireworks in your pocket or shoot them in metal or glass containers. Never smoke when handling fireworks.

Read the Package

Read and follow all warnings and lighting instructions on the item's label.

Only Use Fireworks Outdoors

Never use fireworks indoors.

Select an Open, Clear and Level Shooting Site

Use fireworks in a clear, open area away from buildings and vehicles, making sure the area overhead is free from obstructions.  Keep the audience a safe distance away from the shooting site.  Watch out for dry grass, dry brush or any flammable items that could catch fire.

Have Water Nearby

Always have water (hose or buckets) and/or a fire extinguisher on hand when displaying fireworks. During any fireworks shoot there should always be someone assigned as the fireman, whose job it is to be alert and at the ready with a water source for emergencies.

Young Children Should Not Handle Fireworks

A responsible adult should supervise all fireworks activities. Never give fireworks to young children.

Stand Back

Don't stand over the fireworks while lighting them. Never put your head or any part of your body over the top of any fireworks product at any time. Never hold a lighted firework in your hand. Move back quickly once lit.

Use Care when Lighting Fireworks

"Punk," lighting sticks, and extended butane lighting devices give you more distance from the item when lighting the fuse. Light the fuse only on the tip.  Use a flashlight at night so you can see the fuse.  Never use a lantern or other flame-producing device near fireworks for illumination.  Light the fireworks product and get away quickly.

Light One at a Time

Light only one firework at a time.

Use Safety Glasses when Lighting Fireworks

We recommend that individuals lighting fireworks and those in close proximity to fireworks wear safety glasses.

Do Not Use Alcohol with Fireworks

Please do not consume alcohol when using fireworks. Fireworks must be used by individuals who act in responsible manner and who are not impaired in any way.

Windy Conditions

Be cautious when lighting fireworks during strong wind conditions. Always light fireworks with the prevailing wind blowing away from spectators. If the wind shifts during shooting, stop and rearrange the shooting site to accommodate the wind shift.

Never Use Fireworks as Weapons

Never aim, point , or throw any fireworks at another person or at property.

Do Not Use Malfunctioning or "Dud" Fireworks

If a firework fails to light or completely discharge, wait a few minutes to approach it. Never try to fix it and don't attempt to relight it. If you return a defective item to the store, we will be happy to replace it.

Use Caution Around Animals

Be careful when shooting fireworks around animals. The noise and lights of fireworks may frighten animals.

Dispose of Used Fireworks Properly

Completely extinguish all used fireworks with water and allow them to cool in a safe place overnight before disposing of them.

Storage of Fireworks

Store fireworks in a cool dry place and dispose of them properly.

Do Not Transport Fireworks on Airplanes

This is a violation of federal law.
